Support of the Backpacks for Kids

Aug 07, 2019

Midland Marketing was proud to present First Call For Help of Ellis County with the Co-Bank Matching funds on July, 29th in support of the Backpacks for Kids program. This organization provides backpacks to Ellis County students each August for the upcoming school year. Every year there are families who worry and stress over whether or not they will be able to afford the proper school supplies for their children to begin the school year. First Call For Help makes sure that Ellis County families in need or those enduring a hardship have a place to get back to school supplies for their students. The backpacks average between $50-$55 filled with supplies. The Midland Marketing Board of Directors recognized this need in our communities and chose to use funds that are available to them. First Call for Help relies solely on monetary donations, school supplies and hygiene items donated from community members, grants, churches, the United Way and businesses to be able to provide backpacks and hygiene bags to these students. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has been instrumental in donating funds to help us purchase shampoo, soap and deodorant for our hygiene bags, along with Delta Dental’s generous donation of 700 Smile Kits. Each Smile Kit includes an age appropriate toothbrush, toothpaste and floss for each child. Along with Project Coordinator Laura Shoaff, volunteers help pack and prepare these backpacks to be distributed each August to those students in need. If you would like to volunteer for Backpacks For Kids or make a donation please contact Laura Shoaff or Linda Mills at 785-623-2800. #midlandmarketing #CoBanksharingsuccess

On hand to present the checks were from Left to right Midland Marketing General Manager Kevin Royer, Midland Marketing Board President Brian Staab, First Call For Help Laura Schoaff, and Midland Marketing Board Member Mike Werth.
